Century City –
adjacent to Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive on
Los Angeles’ fashionable West Side, offered the ambience of a
legendary past and the vitality of the present.
Located on what was once the back lot of
Twentieth Century Fox Studios, the resort offered
world-class shopping, museums, and the theatre. |

CMAC’s Jack West Memorial Golf Tournament
was played on Ocean Trails Golf Club. Even though the 18th hole was destroyed
by a landslide in 1999, and only 15 holes are currently in play, this
course (designed by renowned course designer Pete Dye) is destined to
become the premier golf destination in the entire Los Angeles area. With
sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean on every hole, CMAC Golfers agreed -
the setting is second to none.

Highlights

Thursday's education sessions were both
informative and entertaining. DAVE WHARMBY, Inglewood Park Cemetery,
entertained us with some new thoughts in a presentation called "It's
a Bug's Life, Episode#1" and received IAC's 'Golden Shovel'. TYLER
CASSITY, a young visionary in the industry, explained how he has brought
life to the famed cemetery of Hollywood stars - Hollywood Forever
Cemetery. DON POTTER, president of Potter, Katz, Postal & Ferguson
talked about marketing, images and strategies. We also received free
advice from DOUG MEYER, an attorney specializing in cemetery law.
STEPHEN PROTHERO, author of Purified By Fire: A History of Cremation in
America, shared perspectives on cremation and the ever-changing attitudes
about how cremation should be handled.
HEATHER TEODORA, Los Angeles County West
Vector Control District presented "Attack of the Giant
Mosquito," explaining to us how to avoid breeding the insects that can
carry diseases such as West Nile Virus and SANDY VIRAGO, CMAC Executive Vice
President delivered the "State of the Association"
address. We were especially privileged to have CAROL CAUNTER,
President of the International Cemetery and Funeral Association join
us. Daniel Villa led an CMAC version of "Let's Make a Deal" and on Friday morning, JIM NEFF, Legislative Advocate caught us
up on our legislative news.

The best part of any production is the cast
... and IAC's Hollywood Premier was no exception. Whether
networking in the exhibit room or socializing at dinner, IAC's cast are
